Dogs Caretaker
ROLDA is looking for a Dogs Caretaker Volunteer to support the daily care and management of dogs in our shelters in Romania. This role provides a unique opportunity to work closely with our team to ensure the wellbeing of the dogs in our care, many of whom are former street animals in need of socialisation, training, and love.
Your Role:
- Daily Care & Facility Maintenance: Help clean and maintain the shelters, including the dog boxes and running spaces. You will also assist with the general upkeep of the facilities to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for the dogs.
- Health Monitoring & Grooming: Assist with evaluating the dogs’ health, providing grooming and basic training, and ensuring that the dogs are in good condition.
- Socialization & Exercise: Spend time with the dogs in their individual boxes or running spaces, getting to know them and helping them feel comfortable with human interaction. You will work with the dogs on-leash, helping them to build trust and improve their social skills. Off-leash exercise is strictly prohibited outside the shelter due to safety concerns.
- Training: Participate in socialising shy or abused animals, working to build their confidence and comfort around people. Your efforts will contribute to the positive transformations we’ve seen in many dogs, helping them become more adoptable.
Experience & Requirements:
- Experience with Animals: At least 1-3 years of experience interacting with cats or dogs, especially in a caregiving or shelter environment.
- Animal Health Knowledge: Knowledge of basic animal health and management, with prior experience in an animal facility, shelter, or hospital preferred.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift 20 kg+ and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. You must also be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Commitment to Animal Welfare: Passion for animal care, including the ability to work with shy, abused, and former street animals, and contribute to their rehabilitation and training.
Who Should Apply?
- Volunteers based in Romania or located elsewhere in the World, who are willing to travel for the role.
- Individuals with a genuine love for animals and a strong desire to help rescue and rehabilitate street dogs.
- Those who are reliable, self-driven, and comfortable working in an animal care setting, with the ability to follow instructions and work closely with the shelter staff.
Why Volunteer with ROLDA?
This is a hands-on volunteer opportunity where you can make a significant impact on the lives of rescued street dogs. By working with our dedicated team, you’ll help socialise, train, and care for dogs who are learning to trust humans again. Your time and effort will directly contribute to the well-being of the dogs, many of whom will go on to find loving homes thanks to the care they receive at the shelter.
Application Instructions:
Please complete this form and write a cover letter on why you would be a good fit for the role. We will contact you via email with the next steps once you submit your application.
