Frequently asked questions

General

What types of activities do you need volunteers for?

Volunteer activities at ROLDA are divided into five categories:
– Shelter and Adoptions
– Adoptions Abroad
– Administrative
– IT, Marketing, and Social Media
– Other

Some of the tasks included in these categories are marketing, online and offline fundraising, printing materials, creating graphics, and much more. Further descriptions of these categories and their functions can be found here.

What is the required commitment?

Committing to voluntary activities with ROLDA is subject to the individual’s availability. ROLDA requires each volunteer to provide a minimum monthly availability to support the voluntary tasks.

How can I become a ROLDA volunteer?

Becoming a ROLDA volunteer is easy!

Simply:
● Select your preferred volunteer position here.
● Submit an online application, choosing to either be an on-site or virtual volunteer.
● Attend an information session with our Volunteer Coordinator.
● Receive and sport our amazing ROLDA Volunteer swag, including a ROLDA t-shirt and tote bag.
● Gain access to our exclusive volunteers-only Facebook group.

How will you contact me when I am needed as a volunteer?

Whenever we need the help of our amazing volunteers, we will send an email with all the details relating to the task at hand. If you are available, respond to the email and let us know if you’re interested!

If you are not available, don’t worry! We understand your time is valuable, and we will keep you informed of any future volunteer opportunities.

On-site Volunteer

What will I do as an on-site ROLDA volunteer?

● Walk the ROLDA dogs
● Clean the facilities
● Groom the ROLDA dogs
● Socialize the ROLDA dogs

If you are a veterinarian, veterinary nurse, or third-year veterinary student, you are welcome to work with our partner veterinarian clinic under their supervision and guidance.

How long can I volunteer with ROLDA?

You can volunteer for as long as you wish, committing to as little as one day or for many years to come.

What days am I able to volunteer?

The shelter is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can volunteer anytime during those hours.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer at the shelter.

Will lunch be provided?

Volunteers will need to bring their own meals as lunch is not provided by ROLDA. Alternatively, volunteers can visit nearby restaurants during break.

Hydration is vital! Water bottles (0.5l) are complementary and will be provided by ROLDA.

What should I wear?

All volunteers are required to wear close-toed shoes and long trousers while volunteering at the shelter and interacting with animals.

During the winter months, it is recommended you wear insulated, waterproof footwear.

During the summer, it is recommended to wear light and breathable clothing to combat the heat.

Where should I stay?

The town of Galati offers many accommodation options, as well as restaurants and places to visit along the Danube River.
If you choose to stay in Galati, please speak with Flori, one of ROLDA caretakers, to discuss travel arrangements from Galati to the shelter.

What are the safety and security measures at ROLDA’s shelters?

In the event of an accident, basic first aid will be administered on-site. In an emergency requiring medical treatment, ROLDA will provide transport to the nearest medical facility or hospital.

Volunteers should obtain personal medical insurance to cover any medical costs.

Am I required to be vaccinated?

All ROLDA dogs are vaccinated against rabies, so you are not at risk of contracting it from within the shelter. However, Romanian recommendations suggest you be vaccinated against rabies and tetanus if travelling into the country. If an animal bites you, you should seek medical aid from a local medical centre.

Check your country’s travel vaccine recommendations for further guidance.
